United States Army (US Armed Service)

The United States Army is one of the six US uniformed armed services, and the oldest and most senior branch of the US military. The US Army has its roots in the Continental Army, which was formed on June 14, 1775 (before the United States was established as a country) to fight the American Revolutionary War. After the Revolutionary War and the disbanding of the Continental Army, the Congress of the Confederation created the United States Army on June 3, 1784. The United States Army considers itself directly descended from the Continental Army.
