United States Marine Corps (US Armed Service)

The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is one of the six US uniformed armed services and the third oldest and most senior branch of the US military (right behind the US Navy). The US Marine Corps traces its origins to the Continental Marines, which were formed in 1775 (shortly after the Continental Navy) as infantry capable of fighting both at sea and on shore. The Marine Corps has been part of the Department of the Navy since 1834.
