You, as an American citizen, might be asking who qualifies for the “Economic Impact Payments” (aka Stimulus Checks) approved by the Federal government at the end of March 2020 to combat the massive economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic and the Social Distancing (I prefer the term “Safe Distancing”) put into place to combat the spread of the virus which originated in Wuhan, China.
The New York Times would lead you to believe you just need a Social Security Number to receive your check.
A better (and more direct) source is the IRS website. According to the IRS website “Coronavirus” page, Americans will need to file a simple tax return for the year 2019 to receive their payment of up to $1,200. Per the IRS, “Eligible taxpayers who filed [will file] tax returns for either 2019 or 2018 will automatically receive an economic impact payment of up to $1,200 for individuals or $2,400 for married couples.”
