After the extra $600 in benefits courtesy the Federal government under the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Program ran out at the end of July, President Trump issued an Executive Order authorizing a partial replacement of $300 a week in a “Lost Wages Assistance” program funded by the Disaster Relief Fund (DRF), which is run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The catch with this new unemployment assistance funding is that the DRF has limited resources (there was federal funding for no more than six weeks of the extra $300 as of early September) and the Lost Wages Assistance program is, at best, a stop gap measure as Congress remains deadlocked over COVID-19 Aid and Relief.
