D.C. Statehood > Regardless of whether the capital is moved, the City of Washington should be given Statehood, a Statehood perhaps balanced by a western Statehood.

Fair enough, Ray, and I appreciate the vote. I first heard about the Maryland option while petitioning in the area, and it’s certainly worth exploring further. Returning DC to a State which is also heavily Democratic would be a more politically viable solution, since there would be no DC statehood which would have to be balanced with a new conservative state, but keep in mind DC was originally created, at least partly, to prevent the State which happened to be home to the Capital to take advantage of being the cradle of power. A similar issue had already come up with the State of Pennsylvania (see link; a City-State might be a much less dangerous host than, say, a larger State with a less-than-100%-loyal Governor). Hands down DC needs Congressional representation, one way or the other.

it should be placed in the state of maryland, which is exactly where it was placed to begin with. this is just what was done with alexandria, virginia, which was originally supposed to be the southern part of the district of columbia. i will likely vote for you, bill, but i disagree with you on this issue. ray w.
