Letter To European Parliament

A Letter to the European Parliament

Dear Honorable and Esteemed Members of the European Parliament,

I’m writing this open letter today from here in the heart of Europe to make a very simple proposal to my fellow Europe-borns: Next fall, extend Daylight Saving Time by one week.

There are a number of reasons why this should be voted upon, and immediately.

The first, and perhaps easiest, argument is that a synchronization of Europe’s DST with Canada’s (and thus, effectively, the USA’s) is nearly two decades overdue. We live in an increasingly global world, online business is increasingly conducted between continents, and it simply doesn’t make sense for Europe and North America not to sync their clocks.

“Why not say it openly that we’re syncing our DST with the US?” you ask.

The answer is that, in the current antagonistic geopolitical environment single-handedly created by a former KGB agent sitting in the Kremlin, such a move could (and I argue should) be viewed as antagonistic, a collective continental middle finger, if you will.

Showing solidarity with the would-be “51st State” of Canada would be a move inherently demonstrating opposition to President Trump’s all-too-serious-and-evident plans to divide the world between himself, his puppet master, China and perhaps North Korea.

And such a move would not only be that. Europe and the world will not be able to survive without a free America. Indeed, humanity as a whole and, at the very least, the solar system, in light of the desire of Trump’s other master to terraform and colonize Mars (in light of what we’ve seen since last July, would any human being back on this planet, in their right mind, want their children to live in a world with Elon Musk as its Columbus?).

To my second (and last) point: Such a simple move could be a Signal (capitalized pun intended) that Europe, if only out of self-interest, will not allow the world’s only true superpower and once-greatest democracy to implode like a supernova. I’ve previously made a “Suggestion of Confederation”: In short, and here’s where the middle finger comes out, any country threatened by this American Dictator can and should throw demands of annexation back in his face by demanding a say in the next US elections.

We all know the painful truth: The EU has been a good start at creating a united, peaceful and prosperous world, unfortunately held back by the “Tyranny of the Minority”; paradoxically, the larger the EU gets, the weaker it grows. There’s something for each and every one of you in this modest proposal from a nobody who’s not even a European citizen and is working to make such citizenship redundant: Those of you who love the EU (or at least the idea of it) can take bold action to take it to the next level; those of you who hate the very idea of the EU can seize this opportunity to be rid of the EU once and for all.

And please do not forget the words of Churchill, a gentleman born halfway again between Canada and the Continent to an American mother, a fact long-forgotten by history which, with American humility, might explain a few things. During the days of the Franco-British Union proposal, during his “Their Finest Hour” speech, he spoke of “broad, sunlit uplands,” and his words of nearly a century ago have an uncanny echo.

The way to control the future is to embrace it. Thank you for reading, and God bless the USA.

Sincerely,

Bill Hammons
